Provost’s Seed Fund for discovery science Research
PURPOSE AND FOCUS:
Office of the Provost is pleased to announce a Seed Fund for discovery science Research that will support new areas of research for faculty. The program will focus on new projects and/or new collaborative partnerships. Application must clearly demonstrate that the proposed project represents a new research direction. Projects for this program should be innovative and should have strong potential to compete for extramural funds to support the project in the long term.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE:
All tenured and tenure track faculty, exclusive of the Medical School, are eligible to apply as Principal Investigators. Full-Time Non-Tenure Track/Contract Faculty, as defined in the Faculty Handbook, are also eligible to apply if they have been granted PI status and have their Dean’s approval to commit time on grant.
Proposals must:
- Represent a new research direction for the PI
- Have significant merit
- Have a high potential for extramural funding
There are no restrictions on collaborators. These can be on campus, off campus, faculty/industrial collaborators. However, awards for projects involving collaboration with institutions outside of NYU are to be used to support the NYU component of the project only.
APPLICATION AND REVIEW:
Applications are brief and include short proposal, budget and biosketch. Proposals are reviewed by a Faculty Advisory Committee, who may also seek comments from other colleagues from within the University. The proposals and reviews form the content for the Committee’s decision-making. The Advisory Committee makes a comprehensive evaluation of each proposal, identifying those they believe to be most meritorious.
TYPE OF SUPPORT:
Funds are administered by the Office of the Provost. Awards are for a 1-year period.
Whitehead Fellowships for Junior Faculty In Biomedical And Biological Sciences
PURPOSE AND FOCUS:
NYU Whitehead Fellowships assist faculty in the early years of their independent research careers to conduct focused research projects in the biomedical and biological sciences and enhance their ability to compete successfully for external funds.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE:
The competition is open to applicants from all New York University units with faculty working in the biomedical sciences. At the time of application, applicants must be full-time, tenure track, non-tenured faculty within five years of their first tenure track faculty appointment, including appointments at other institutions.
APPLICATION AND REVIEW:
Proposals are brief, must define a problem that can be investigated in a one-year project period; provide a self-contained account of what will be done, how and why; demonstrate the likelihood of a significant contribution to the field; and show strong potential to attract external support. Proposals are seen by peer reviewers within the University. The proposals and the reviews form the basis for the Committee’s decision making.
TYPE OF SUPPORT:
Funds are administered by the Office of the Provost. Awards are in an amount up to $30,000 for a one-year project period.
