Columbia University’s Innovation Fund will support ambitious, cutting-edge research projects for individuals as well as cross-disciplinary team projects that break new ground for the university. The fund will balance current-use “fast fuel” funds with endowed funds, moving toward increased funding for endowment purposes in the future.
PURPOSE AND FOCUS:
The fund will advance knowledge-driven research in the discovery sciences, with an emphasis on projects that show promise of establishing new and disruptive insights.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE:
Research staff and faculty at all levels, from graduate students to full professors.
APPLICATION AND REVIEW:
The Innovation Fund will be managed centrally by the Office of the EVP for Research. Proposals will be requested from all primary investigators working on fundamental science throughout the university. Criteria for selection will be defined clearly in the program announcement and will include a peer review process with both written reviews and panel discussions.
TYPE OF SUPPORT:
Initial plan is to support 20-25 investigators in multi-year commitments (approximately three-year packages) of $80,000 to $100,000 annually.
